[Concerning the rank of the Saints, the Esotericist, the feeling of Security and Despair, the diviner, the Non-Existent, and prayers for the dead]
وَتَصْدِيقُ الْكَاهِنِ بِمَا يُخْبِرُهُ عَنِ الْغَيْبِ كُفْرٌ.
046- To assent to what a diviner1 (kāhin) narrates of the unseen (ghayab) is unbelief (kufr).
- The term refers to a group of people in Arabia who claimed to have knowledge of future events and had communication with Jinn [Q. 72:6] who would tell the kāhin [كاهن] of events that the jinn heard about in the lower heavens [Q. 72:8–10]. Prognosticator, oracle, astrologer (munajjim), or anyone who claims to have divine knowledge to fortell the future. In the hadith we have: “whoever consults a diviner (kāhin) and assents to what he says becomes an unbeliever in that which came down on Muhammad.” Tirmidhī, Sunan, 1:160#135, Ibn Māja, Sunan, 1:424#639.
