فَالحَواسُّ خمْسٌ: السَّمْعُ، وَالْبَصَرُ، وَالشَّمُّ، وَالذَّوْق وَاللَّمْسُّ، وَبِكُلِّ حَاسَّةٍ مِنْهَا يُوقَفُ عَلىَ مَا وُضِعَتْ هِيَ لَهُ.

003 – The senses (ḥawāss pl./ sing. ḥāssa) are five, namely, hearing, sight, smell, taste, and touch, and by each of these senses one is informed concerning that for which it was appointed as in hearing [with the ear], tasting [by the tongue] and smelling [by the nose] 1

  1. Meaning God has created each of one of the senses to perceive certain things peculiar to it, such as hearing for sounds, taste for flavors, and smell for aroma.
