وَيُكَفُّ عَنْ ذِكْرِ الصَّحَابَةِ إِلَّا بِخَيْرٍ .

040- Only the good concerning the Companions1 should be mentioned of them.

 

  1. Here the principle of charity is applied when understanding, interperting and evaluating the narratives of these historical events that took place. Applying the principle of charity stiplulates that the companions are to be seen in the best light possible given the circumstances at that time of great fitna upheavel, namely after the assassination of ʿUthmān in 35/656 and the events at Ṣiffīn in 36/656.
