[Concerning the rank of the Saints, the Esotericist, the feeling of Security and Despair, the diviner, the Non-Existent, and prayers for the dead]

وَالنُّصُوصُ تُحْمَلُ عَلَى ظَوَاهِرِهَا، وَالْعُدُولُ عَنْهَا إِلَى مَعَانٍ يَدَّعِيهَا أَهْلُ الْبَاطِنِ إِلْحَادٌ بكُفْر، وَرَدُّ النُّصُوصِ كُفْرٌ.

044- The texts (nuṣūṣ) are [to be interpreted] according to their literal [meanings], and to turn away from them [literal interpretation] to meanings which the esotericist (ahl al-bāṭin) assert is an atheistic heresy. The [outright] rejection of the texts (nuṣūṣ) is unbelief.
